Top Issues for my Campaign 2024

Today, I updated my website to be far less wordy and to focus on connecting people with ways to communicate with me, with my social media links, and with my donation link. Mostly, I removed excess words. Here are the explanations I originally had for my top campaign issues:

SOLVE ISSUES

• Focus on getting things done, do a good job in government
• Avoid distraction on issues that don’t improve life for Utahns, especially on issues that engender hate and division
• No time for growing hate, personal gain, or political obstructionism
• Government for the people
• Change leadership, electing people who commit to cooperate and do the job
• New leadership with integrity and dedication
• Oppose “the party of ‘no’” and divisiveness and obstructionism

DEMOCRACY

• Fix severe gerrymandering
• Bring accountability to anti-democratic extremism
• A 1-party system does not work
• Support democracy, checks and balances, the separation of church and state and religious freedom, and the rule of law
• The rule of law is paramount, no one is above the law
• Support for these constitutional principles is non-negotiable, country above party
• Defeat the Utah one-party super-majority that includes legislators who created some of the worst gerrymandering in the country despite the people of Utah’s vote against it
• Defeat legislators who supported the January 6 insurrection

Economy

• Invest in the common good, like our cities, roads, healthcare, new energy, new technology, and schools
• Public investment to improve life, liberty, and society for everyone, and the effect grows over time
• Since just 1950, the effective tax rate for the top .01% of richest Americans decreased from 70% to below 20%
• Since just 1950, the effective tax rate for the rest of the top 1% decreased from 40% to 25% (these are multi-billionaires)
• Investment was forced to decrease, but not enough for a balanced budget — the debt has increased, too!
• The best way to make America great again is to increase taxes on the very wealthy, decrease taxes on the lowest brackets, and invest in the common good
• Invest, fix the debt, build the future

EDUCATION

• In the modern world, education and critical thinking are more important than ever
• Public intelligence and education outcomes in key subjects are lacking and getting worse
• Improve teacher pay and quality and give more trust to educators
• Improve marketing and emphasis on the benefits of education and on the many existing opportunities
