intro.

How do we make life better? What would make a difference for you?

I feel Utah is ready for something new. We may have a thriving state according to someone’s spreadsheets, but many people are worried because houses cost too much; are stressed because government is so divisive and isn’t getting their job done; and feel fear about their future and their families. We worry about fitting in and finding a place. It’s like there are parallel worlds — one getting rich, and the other going through hard times.

We’re ready for something new — to come together; to help our neighbor and our brother and our sister; to make something that works for everyone instead of just the elite few. We’re ready to invest in ourselves and in growing the middle class. We’re ready to reach opportunity.

Here’s a passage that inspired me:

In the end, that is God’s greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation: a belief in things not seen; a belief that there are better days ahead. I believe that we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunity. I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless, homes to the homeless, and reclaim young people in cities across America from violence and despair. I believe that we have a righteous wind at our backs and that as we stand on the crossroads of history, we can make the right choices and meet the challenges that face us.

America, tonight, if you feel the same energy that I do, if you feel the same urgency that I do, if you feel the same passion that I do, if you feel the same hopefulness that I do — if we do what we must do, then I have no doubt that . . . this country will reclaim its promise, and out of this long political darkness a brighter day will come. where I’m running.

I’m running in Utah House District 65, which is Payson, Santaquin, western parts of Elk Ridge and Salem, and some of the surrounding areas.

how I’m running.

I’m running on opportunity, investing in community, and Constitutional principles.

I’m very practical and want to address challenges like housing affordability, jobs, new clean tech, and quality of education. But I’m also very technical and feel strongly about principles like the rule of law, separation of church and state, checks and balances, and justice as fairness.

I’m running as a Democrat against incumbent Doug Welton (R). We’re the only two candidates, and the convention season was relatively quiet. But, our district’s general election season is just starting to heat up.

I’ll be organizing Meet the Candidates events with people from other races, Q&A video calls, going to community events all over, and reaching out to people through door-knocking, flyers, and posts like this one.

why I’m running.

I love people. I love good government. I love a thriving society. I have a lot to give and only want a thriving state in return. I want to invest in the future.

But why run against Doug Welton, a successful incumbent Republican? Here are a few quick reasons: First, I’m passionate, driven, and skilled enough to do a great job. Second, for democracy and the Constitution. Third, to be part of a renaissance in good character and getting things done. Fourth, to innovate and improve on the economy.

I am interested in meeting everyone. Email and video calls sound great to me. Want to participate? Maybe we could spend a half hour knocking doors together (hanging up flyers?). Especially if you’re in my district, I’d just love to hear from you.
